PSD@24: A Celebration of Triumph and Excellence

"Today marks the celebration of PSD's founding anniversary with the theme 'Marking the footprints of triumph sustaining the lead of service and excellence'. What PSD has achieved for 24 years is a product of a combined effort of the shared responsibilities and of the steady focus of what our school shall become", the words uttered by Dr. Alexander S. Acosta during the much awaited Foundation Day celebration of the institution which provided a new voyage to the ironic collection of festivals celebrated around the world.

A graphic treat of vibrant outfits and vigorous presentations stole the breath away of thousands of Filipinos at the PSD's annual field demonstration last Sept. 30 at Al Rayyan Sports Club. More than 3,000 students in elegant insignia vied at the much awaited competition. Dr. Alexander S. Acosta led the ostentatious festivity together with Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo Santos who praised the efforts of PSD to provide world-class quality education to Filipino children in Qatar and reiterated the Embassy's support to the school. The ambassador also stressed that the Philippine Embassy in Doha will continue to support PSD in its pursuit of education excellence for the Filipino children who are our country's hope and future. The event was graced with other Embassy officials Consul General Roussel Reyes, Philippine Labor Attache David Des Dicang and Cultural Attache John Jiao and the members of PSD Board of Trustees headed by Mr. Gerardo Macasa, Jr., BOT Chairman, and PSD Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) headed by its chairman, Mr. Jehmar Tabili.

Moreover, PSD alumni-turned-beauty-titlist Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2015 Janela Joy Cuaton and recently crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2016 Justine Mae 'Jaya' San Jose also joined in the celebration as a demonstration of the achievements of PSD graduates. San Jose who is in Doha only for a short visit handed over part of the proceeds of the recently concluded Photoshoot for A Cause organised by the Alliance of Filipino Journalists in Qatar (AFJQ) and HERO Qatar. She was also honoured on the occasion for her recent achievement in the prestigious national pageant in the Philippines.

PSD BOT Chairman Gerardo Macasa highlighted the achievements of PSD alumni including topping in national licensure examinations in the Philippines. He also underscored the growing student population of the PSD from 33 in 1992 to 3,445 for the school year 2016-2017. Also, the handing over of the donation of Jaidah Automotive amounting to QR65,000 for the construction of new PSD school and raffle draw of two roundtrip tickets, Doha-Manila-Doha, donated by Philippine Airlines were executed.

The students presented stunning performances of Philippine festival street dances including Masskara of Bacolod City, Kadayawan of Davao City and Tinagba of Iriga City while world festival dances representing North Korea's Arirang Festival, Portugal's Agitagueda Art Festival and Japan's Sakura Festival were also featured at the five-hour extravaganza. Celebratory creative dances inspired by Qatar were a highlight at the event which also featured dances from Hollywood blockbusters including 1978 movie musical Grease, computer animated fantasy film Happy Feet and teen comedy film Bring It On. Hearts beat debauched and cheers got louder as the announcement of winners followed the presentations. The awarding started with giving of certificates of recognition to the Preschool participants. For the Primary, the Grade 3 was declared Champion while the Grade 2 bagged the first runner-up and the Grade 1 for second runner-up. For the Intermediate, the Grade 6 got the championship title, first runner-up for the Grade 4 and second runner-up for the Grade 5. The last set of awards was for the High School. This year's champion was Grade 11, first runner-up was Grade 10, second runner-up was Grade 8, third runner-up was grade 7, and fourth runner up was Grade 9.

As PSD celebrates its 24th Founding Anniversary, the Intermediate Department, headed by Dr. Wilgie Mae T. Serna, Intermediate Department Coordinator, has lined up a slew of events for the yearlong festivity which includes Foundation Day Ceremony, Peryahan ng Bayan, Aqua Park Family Fun Day, and PSD Got Talent. "This year, we see to it that these events are something that our PSD family will enjoy and have fun with lots of bonding with parents, students and faculty, not just purely academics, PSD should look at the past with gratitude and celebrate the present with enthusiasm and look at the future with hope" Dr. Serna cited.
PSD is beholding to mark the 24th year of its existence giving its best service to all its shareholders and to Filipino emigrants in Qatar. PSD will continue to soar high as it constantly adheres to expand in service as it grows in excellence. Servitium Et Excellentiam-Service and Excellence. PSD which is a non-stock, non-profit school was established in October 1992 to serve the educational needs of the children of the Filipino community in the State of Qatar. PSD is a major learning institution in Qatar as far as providing basic education for the Filipino is concerned. PSD is dedicated to advancing knowledge and educating students as it aims to be the "First Philippine Science School in the Middle East" that will best serve the Filipinos and the humanity in the 21st century. PSD sworn to uphold the tradition of providing quality education to every student following the philosophy of service and excellence.
